Feng Shui

Feng Shui
Feng Shui (pronounced 'fung shwee') is the ancient chinese art of design and placement. The basic tenets of this art are that there is an energy, or qi (chi), which flows through everything in the universe. The flow of this energy can affect humans, and the aim of Feng Shui is to balance the flow - not too fast or too slow, and to balance the two opposing elements of qi - Yin and Yang. These are also complementary forces, as it is said that one cannot exist without the other.

Yin and Yang have many opposing characteristics, such as male/female, positive/negative, hot/cold. These two forces need to be in balance in the home, office and garden to promote success and happiness. The theory is a mix of psychology, tradition, and more esoteric ideas.

Judging whether changes need to be made can be done either by using your imagination and intuition to determine the flow of energy through your home, or by using tools, such as templates, which determine how your home should be arranged. There are plenty of books available on this subject, plus there are Feng Shui advisors who will survey your home to determine what improvements need to be made.
